Based on Netflix’s Top 10 for Thursday, June 16

For fans of: stranger things | Is it good?: It’s so much fun

Now that the kids are older, Season 4 of Netflix’s ’80s-style sci-fi megahit embraces all-out horror in a way it never has before (the biggest influence on this season is freddie). It also gets oversized with episode runtimes, leading to bloat. It’s not the show’s best season, but it’s still one of the most entertaining shows on TV. (Yesterday’s ranking: 1)

For fans of: Adam Sandler: serious actor | Is it good?: He is!

In Uncut Gems, the game of basketball is basically billed second only to Adam Sandler himself. Sandler is famous for big fan of basketball in general, so it was only a matter of time before he made it into a movie. Another reminder to the world that Sandler is a solid dramatic actor, Hustle is a sports drama that stars Sandler as a failed scout who makes it his mission to recruit a talented Spanish street ball player into the NBA. (Yesterday’s ranking: 2)

For fans of: Sports, high school, the city of Los Angeles | Is it good?:It’s a solid teen drama that adults can enjoy too

The acclaimed CW high school sports drama, inspired by the life of former NFL player Spencer Paysinger, follows Spencer James (Daniel Ezra), an aspiring soccer star who balances ambition and everyday teenage drama as he leaves his neighborhood to become the MVP of a new school in Beverly Hills. Its fourth season has just been released on Netflix. (Yesterday’s ranking: 4)

For fans of: Romeo and Juliet, but make them lesbian teens | Is it good?: That’s pretty good

The bones of Romeo and Juliet shake in their graves over this new Netflix series, which follows two teenage girls who fall into forbidden love. Why is it prohibited? Because one of them is a vampire (who is literally called Juliet) and the other is a vampire hunter. Happy Pride! (Yesterday’s ranking: 3)

For fans of: Melissa McCarthy, stupid humor | Is it good?: It’s disappointing

Melissa McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone star in this comedy series about an average Joe who is chosen by God to be his messenger to Earth. It’s not as funny as it could be. (Yesterday’s ranking: n/a)

6. Be Gentle: Pray and Obey

For fans of: Cults | Is it good?: it’s horrible

Netflix’s latest foray into true crime pulls back the curtain on an even darker sub-sector of the Church of Latter-day Saints. The four-part docuseries tells the story of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, its leader and self-proclaimed prophet, Warren Jeffs, and the extreme mistreatment of young women within the cult that ‘he created. (Yesterday’s ranking: 5)

For fans of: This haircut, period pieces | Is it good?: it has always been great

The sixth and final season of the British period crime drama is set in 1933 and finds Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) trying to lift the curse he believes has been placed on his family, which is why they are all miserable and prone to violent death. It’s not supernatural all of a sudden; Tommy is just a guy who believes in curses. (Yesterday’s ranking: 6)

For fans of: True crime documentaries, be afraid of the internet | Is it good?: It’s pretty messed up, but the show isn’t great

This docuseries explores various internet crimes and their impact on the physical world, such as SWATing, sextortion, and right-wing extremism. It will make you want to smash your phone with a hammer and then melt the pieces away. (Yesterday’s ranking: n/a)

For fans of: jenny from the block | Is it good?: Did J. Lo deserve an Oscar for Hustlers? (Yes)

Documentary filmmaker Amanda Micheli portrays little-known actress and singer Jennifer Lopez as she prepares for a performance for a little-known event called “The Super Bowl.” (Yesterday’s ranking: 7)

For fans of: Network dramas made for streaming | Is it good?: This is the tv dad peak

Netflix doesn’t do a lot of network-type dramas, so this legal drama from prolific writer-producer David E. Kelley stands out. Long before he became the big little lies guys, Kelley dominated the lawyer space on TV with LA Law, The practice, Ally McBealand Boston Legal, among others. It’s his return to the genre. Lincoln’s lawyer is based on a series of bestselling novels by Michael Connelly, who also created Det. Harry Bosch, and follows Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), a Los Angeles defense attorney who doesn’t like defending the guilty. He was previously played by Matthew McConaughey in the beloved 2011 film of the same name. (Yesterday’s ranking: 8)
