Mountain Lake Town Club to host clothing drive on October 30
Town Club of Mountain Lakes press release:
October 27, 2021
The Town Club of Mountain Lakes, in collaboration with HELPSY, the Northeast’s largest clothing collector, is planning a clothing drive on October 30, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations will be accepted at Island Beach and in the parking lot of the St. John’s Fraternal Lodge at 280 Boulevard in Mountain Lakes, NJ. The clothes collected will be recycled and diverted to avoid becoming trash in local landfills while raising funds for the club’s philanthropic efforts. The Town Club offers educational, sports, social and public service grants to local organizations.
According to the EPA, textile waste is one of the fastest growing waste streams in the United States… occupying nearly 5% of landfill space. The United States throws away 36 billion pounds of textiles every year … that’s almost 100 pounds per person. Of these discarded textiles, 95% could be recycled… but currently only 15% are recycled.
“HELPSY is committed to changing the way people view clothing recycling while adhering to the highest level of social and environmental performance,” said Dan Green, CEO and co-founder of HELPSY. The company’s efforts have earned it a Certified B Company designation… Using Business as a Force for Good ™.
HELPSY accepts clean, dry and packaged clothing and fashion accessories (stained, worn or torn) including dresses, shirts, pants, suits, coats, gloves, hats, belts, ties, scarves, wallets, handbags, bags backpacks, tote bags, shoes, towels, bedding, costumes, curtains, inserts, tablecloths and rugs. They will not accept breakable household items or glass, electronics, furniture, building materials, scrap metal, appliances, mattresses, encyclopedia sets, phone books or magazines.
