Ikelite announces body for Canon EOS M50 Mark II

Ikelite has announced its new body for Canon’s entry-level mirrorless EOS M50 Mark II. The original M50 became Canon’s best-selling mirrorless camera in the US market, and the Mark II included only very minor tweaks, relating to vlogging and eye autofocus, which have little impact on underwater shooters.

As such, the new case is compatible with both the M50 and M50 II, but Ikelite has changed the packaging from its original M50 case: In line with the company’s new formula for others housings, the M50 II housing no longer includes a TTL circuit integrated housing; instead, you now have the option to add the DL5 DS Link TTL converter, which includes the bulkhead and shoe, if you wish. Significantly, this reduced the price of the case to just $ 775, which is $ 320 less than the introductory price of the previous case. This also means that if you prefer to fire your flashes in manual mode, you just need to add the bulkhead and hot shoe.

Otherwise, the box offers a full complement of features: Body in ABS-PC blend; DLM / A “Dry Lock” port system optimized for Canon EF-M lenses (as well as EF and EF-S lenses with adapter); and sensitive trigger, soft touch buttons and hard anodized aluminum buttons. You have the option of adding a viewfinder and / or a vacuum cleaner kit.

The new case is available now from retailers such as Backscatter.

PRESS RELEASE

200DLM / A Underwater Housing for Canon EOS M50, M50 II, Kiss M Mirrorless Digital Cameras

A professional-grade compact waterproof housing for the Canon EOS M50, EOS M50 Mark II and EOS Kiss M mirrorless digital cameras. This system is perfect for any application in or around water, from diving to surfing to the swimming pool. This case replaces the previous model for the EOS M50 Mark I # 6973.15.

Controls and ergonomics

A trigger-type shutter lever control is designed for optimum sensitivity and natural movement when shooting underwater. The standard control hugs the side of the housing for comfortable use when in the hand. The lever can be easily extended using the optional Shutter Trigger Extension # 4077.95 for a more comfortable reach when using a handle.

The soft-touch buttons are easy to grip with or without gloves and provide quick access to important controls, including the front and rear dials and mode control.

The hard anodized aluminum pushbuttons are extremely light and resistant to salt build-up and corrosion. The back of the case features laser etched check symbols that will never fade or fall off.

Camera installation

The camera mount is front loading for easy installation and removal. A small mounting plate attaches to the bottom of the camera and attaches to the front of the housing. The camera mounting plate does not need to be removed from the camera for surface use or when replacing the battery or memory cards. The mounting plate has a 1 / 4-20 threaded mount on the bottom so that it can be attached to a tripod on the surface.

Lens options

High quality but affordable optics are available for a wide range of lenses, from wide angle fisheye to macro. Our custom optical grade acrylic domes deliver the color, clarity and durability of glass at a fraction of the weight and cost. Flat glass ports are available for macro lenses.

The DLM port system is designed to be tough enough for heavy surfs and to provide reliability in remote locations. The lens port attaches without twisting, threading or complex mechanisms.

Lens port sold separately. A compatible lens port is required for waterproof use. View DLM / A Ports Table (PDF)

Sights

The included Supereye viewfinder provides an enhanced view of the camera’s electronic viewfinder when viewed through a diving mask.

Get the brightest, sharpest view from the camera’s OLED EVF by adding an optional magnified viewfinder. The Supereye can be removed quickly and easily for attachment of a straight magnified viewfinder # 6890 or a 45 ° magnified viewfinder (Type 1) # 6891. 1.

The camera’s large, ultra-bright LCD display is visible on the back of the case and can be tilted before installation in the case for a better view underwater.

Mounting of accessories

Two 1 / 4-20 threaded mounting points are included at the bottom of the case for attaching a tray and handles. The handles provide better ergonomics underwater and form the basis of your lighting brackets.

If you’re shooting with two strobe or light arms, a top handle can be added to carry it to and from the dive site. Top handles are available in # 4080.07 strain relief or # 4080.08 aluminum top handle. The rigid aluminum version offers additional mounting points for lighting and accessories.

Leak and vacuum tests

There is no better assurance than being able to see your camera and the O-ring on the back of the case. Our signature open-groove design suspends the rear O-ring in a natural position that is easier to maintain and more reliable than forcing the O-ring into a channel. Once the case is closed, you can see the o-ring forming a strong and tight seal.

A spare 1 / 2-20 threaded accessory port is provided on the side of the housing for easy installation of the optional vacuum kit # 47012. A hand pump with gauge allows you to vacuum the housing to simulate pressure water and check for leaks before entering the water.

Each unit is tested under water pressure to 200 feet (60 m) before leaving our facility in Indianapolis.

Durability and performance without corrosion

A custom ABS-PC blend housing delivers strength and performance year after year with minimal maintenance. The ABS-PC material is inherently corrosion resistant and considerably lighter than aluminum. Specially formulated color deflects the sun to keep your camera cooler, longer. Compared to black or transparent cases, the light color provides higher contrast for a better view of the camera, LCD screen and O-ring.

Made in the USA

Ikelite products are designed, manufactured and tested in the USA. We use top quality local materials. Our housings are hand built and individually tested for fit and function. We back our products with over 50 years of experience and the best reputation for service within the diving industry.

Optional strobe connection

External flashes can be triggered by the camera by adding the B1A Bulkhead # 46002 and the Canon C1 Hotshoe (Manual) # 46071. Reliable locking connectors between the hotshoe and bulkhead make it easy to install the hotshoe or transport the hotshoe. spare parts when traveling to remote places. This combination provides manual exposure only using the power settings of the strobe (s).

Enjoy the fastest, most accurate strobe exposure on the market by adding the DL5 DS Link Canon TTL Converter B1A Bulkhead and CT1 TTL Hotshoe Kit # 46076 and a compatible Ikelite DS strobe. DS Link can be programmed to camera specific TTL protocol and supports both front and rear curtain sync up to the camera’s maximum flash sync speed. Exposure compensation can be added or subtracted in the camera. A push button and indicator light on the side of the converter makes it easy to switch between TTL exposure and manual exposure underwater.

The built-in flash cannot be used in this installation. Triggering of fiber optic strobes is not supported at this time.

Permanent lighting

A constant bright video light can be used instead of or in addition to a flash. A permanently lit light is not as bright as a strobe flash. Permanent lights provide additional versatility, as they can be used for focus assist and for enhanced colors when shooting video.

Light is absorbed when it travels even short distances underwater, causing colors to look dull or monochrome. To preserve the natural colors of your subject, it’s important to stay within reach — no more than 3 to 4 feet (1 m) away.

There is a simple rule that the brighter it is, the better it is underwater. A high quality lighting system can produce magazine quality results with almost any camera system.

Compatibility

Differences in lens placement and controls prevent other Canon cameras from being used in this body. Canon EOS M50 cameras are not compatible with any other Ikelite body model.

This body is only compatible with Canon EOS M50, EOS M50 Mark II and EOS Kiss M cameras supplied by the manufacturer. Unless otherwise specified, this enclosure does not allow the use of additional handles, battery handles, eyepieces, LCD screen covers, or other accessories.

Optional accessories

Adding an external strobe or video light enhances the color and sharpness of your photos underwater. If you shoot within 10m (30ft) or in an indoor swimming pool, your photos will be predominantly blue-green with no artificial light source. Learn more about strobe options
